As the name suggests, the game takes place in Vault 76 in the year 2102. Vault 76, unlike other Vaults, is a controlled Vault, meaning that no experiments will take place. As according to the Vault Archives in Fallout 3's Citadel where The Brotherhood of Steel is situated in Washington D.C., Vault 76's door was forced to open as an intentional plan to allow the vault dwellers outside into The Wasteland to reclaim it and begin rebuilding civilization.
